MEGAGEAR®
Through research and development Power Engineering and Manufacturing, Ltd (PEM) has developed gear teeth that have a unique involute geometry that can carry a higher horsepower with a longer surface and bending fatigue life. PEM's trademark gear MEGAGEAR® has symmetric flanks that can carry approximately 33% more horsepower with three to ten time's longer surface and bending fatigue life. PEM's other gear is trademarked UNIMEGAGEARS® which has non symmetric flanks, and can carry up to 45% more horsepower, also with a three to ten times longer surface and bending fatigue life.

MEGAGEAR® Increased Power Density And Wear Life
These pictures show test results of MEGAGEAR® (Picture #2) tested at the same horsepower as the standard gears (Picture #1) as well as MEGAGEAR® tested at one third more horsepower (Picture #3). After 50 million load cycles of each gear, it can be seen that the MEGAGEAR® have less surface wear. All gears were made from Timken alloy steel from the same melt. They were heat treated, ground and tested to identical specifications.
These tests prove that the MEGAGEAR® have a one third higher power density or 2.6 times longer surface durability at equal load.
The MEGAGEAR® bending stress is so low that most of the time the bending fatigue life exceeds the surface fatigue life.
In the near future, we will be testing UNIMEGAGEARS® that are expected to have a fifty percent higher power density or, nearly four times longer surface durability at the same load.
