Flywheel Performance Comparison Chart
This chart is a performance comparison of hydraulic trenching machines with and without flywheels. There are four points of interest that make a trenching machine with a flywheel gear box more durable and more productive. They are as follows:
- The mechanical cutting chain and hydraulic horsepower are identical in magnitude and fluctuate in an identical manner when no flywheel is present.
- The hydraulic pressure spikes of the trenching machine with a flywheel have been nearly eliminated. The flywheel inertia protects the hydraulic pump and motor from failure caused by high pressure shock loads.
- When a flywheel is present, cutting tooth force may be up to four times higher than its corresponding tooth force in on all hydraulic trencher. This enables the machine to break harder rock as well as becoming more productive.
- Because the flywheel is a source of kinetic energy completely seperate from the engine and responds instantaneously, the operator can use all of the engine horsepower to cut a trench. Without a flywheel the operator reduces the usable horsepower because high loads will tend to stall the engine.
